About Us

Our Mission
The BSE Credit Union's mission is to provide superior service and the best rates possible to our members while maintaining a sound financial institution.

We track our achievement of this goal by continuously reviewing the marketplace in which our members seek financial services. Since there are no stockholders, the profits we make are returned to our members in the form of better rates, lower fees, and higher dividends.

Our History
Incorporated in May 1955, BSE Credit Union's founding members were 13 employees of the Berea City Schools. They were dedicated to the principle of members helping members. These educators envisioned an alternative to banks and savings and loans, which would provide accessible and personal financial services to its members.

From its modest beginnings in a small Berea office building, BSE Credit Union has steadily grown to an asset base of over 10 million dollars. In 1971, we expanded our membership to include other employers, organizations, groups and associations throughout the area. We currently can provide services to anyone who lives, works, attends school or church anywhere in Middleburg Heights, Berea, Brook Park, Olmsted Falls or Olmsted Township.

In order to better serve our members, we purchased a building in 1977. Its convenient location on Bagley Road has easy access from I-71 allowing our membership to grow. With more space available, we were able to expand our services to members.

What Makes Credit Unions Unique?

Skilled Motivated Staff
Our office is staffed with a skilled member service team that is ready to help you succeed financially. Our staff attends training seminars on a regular basis. No matter what your needs are, we are able and willing to serve you.

Dedicated Volunteers
A volunteer Board of Directors oversees the credit union on behalf of all the members. This group of seven members are elected to three year staggered terms from the membership at our Annual Meeting. Any member can be nominated to serve on the Board. Our Board members represent various companies and organizations throughout our community. Current Board members have from 1 to 30 years of experience as BSE Credit Union volunteers.  The Supervisory Audit Committee is made up of volunteer members appointed by the directors. They conduct monthly audits to meet state credit union regulations. A state examiner performs yearly audits.

Up-to-Date Technology
Our computer systems are updated regularly and our staff is fully trained and knowledgeable about all of our technology. Staff members can assist our membership with any questions regarding home banking and other issues relating to their accounts. We maintain full compliance with state and federal regulations

State Supervision
BSE Credit Union is a state-chartered credit union. An examiner from the Division of Credit Unions from the state of Ohio examines the financial condition, policies and procedures of the credit union on an annual basis. This examination is to ensure that Management, Board of Directors and committees are following all the rules and regulations as set forth by the State of Ohio.

Account Insurance
ASI, American Share Insurance, is the nation's largest private deposit insurer. They are a non-federal insurer, owned by Credit Unions. ASI insures accounts, not individuals. Each account you have with the credit union is insured up to $250,000.
